I have been having the same issue as Treeman49 where ebooks from Ottawa Public Library download to ADE but ADE crashes as soon as I try to transfer files to my Kobo. I am using a Mac OS 10.9.5 and have tried various versions of ADE. I was able to successfully transfer some ebooks in January but have not had success lately. Any help in resolving this issue is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Why can't I access to my ebooks in Adobe Digital Editions?
Hi,
I just downloaded an additional ebook for Digital Editions.
However, now Digital Editions is not working and I can’t have access any of my ebooks.
I don’t receive any error message but it’s simply not working.
Before doing that download everything was working fine.
Any idea of how this can be fixed ASAP?
I'm having training for ITIL certification and I need to have access to my ebooks ASAP.

It says file could not be opened because it was either not a supported type or it was damaged. I have already had the file resent and in talking to the American Medical Association (purchased from their site) it appears when I go to open the file it is in Adobe Reader and I do not see an option to move it to Adobe Digital Editions,

I think the book you perchased/downloaded is in pdf format.
Adobe Reader is the default reading program for pdf format.
If you have digital editions installed, then
You can either open the book in digital editions by right clicking on the book and select open with digital editions.
Or you can open Digital Editions directly and add the book to the library and open it.

That's great, but it didn't work for me, because using "Control Shift D" is just another way at getting at the same "deauthorization" dialog box. Like for some of the other posters above have shown, this box does not work; it continually tells me to try again later, with the result that I can never de-authorize the computer.

The "Control Shift D" did not work for me either, but deleting the registry key and restarting did work. Its basically like forcing the de-authorization by removing the authorization. Hope it works for you too.

If you can't erase authorization from ADE directly, you can follow the other steps given in the link:
https://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/error-e_act_not_ready.html
Close the ADE first.
Now
For mac, you will have to manually remove the file activation.dat from "/Users/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions" folder.
For Win, You will need to remove the registry. Steps for which are mentioned in the link.

I tried the latest 4.0.3 and it is causing a page fault on my Mac 10.10.2 for any of the Game of Thrones books from my library. I asked my library for their recommended version and they said to use 3.x so that's what I'm on now with no issues with my library.
