Share an eBook on our network??

$

Our Corporation recently bought an eBook that we need to share among multiple users. All users have Adobe Digital editions 2.0 on their devices. we have the ebook saved to a network drive that all users have access to however, i am the only user that can access the book. What do we need to do to share the book among all the users? The others are being prompted for a vendor ID and are being denied access to the book. Thank you for your help.

You can't share an Adobe DRM book unless you share an Adobe ID.

Up to 6 devices (computers/ereaders/tablets) can share an ID at once.

N ot likely to be convenient if the devices are used for other things that really need user's individual IDs.

If you are a small group only using your computers/devices for reading work books,

could work conveniently for you.

Re: why Adobe digital Edition does not accept my Adobe ID for authorisation my Computer?

Most like answer is my first below.  Second added as a possible solution if the first doesn't work.

1) ~~~~~

Sometimes ADE gets its registration/activation confused and in a semi-authorized state.

Uninstalling and reinstalling does not help.

Unfortunately, it often then gives misleading error messages about what is wrong.

A common incorrect message informs you that the ID is already in use on another computer and cannot be reused.

This can often be resolved by completely removing any authorization using ctrl-shift-D to the Library screen on ADE (cmd-shift-D if on Mac).

Restart ADE, and then reauthorize with your (old) Adobe ID.

In extreme cases on the mac, the following extra step has helped some people.  Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash. If you are using 10.7, see Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1265248?tstart=0

2) ~~~~~~~~~

There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0 (and 2.0.1).  Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.

(You can have them both installed at once if you like.)

Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.

http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/cant-install-digital-editio ns.html

The forum software is sometimes corrupting the link above.  There shouldn't be a blank in 'editio ns.html'.  The following redirects to the same page: http://tinyurl.com/diged172

Some people have found ADE trying to upgrade automatically.

It appears (not 100% sure) that if you install ADE2.0 as a new install (not as an upgrade) that your 1.7.2 will continue to run.

Probably best to say no if 2.0.x installation asks if you want to migrate your library.

Most peculiar.

I'd be slightly tempted by a backup and factory reset of the Kobo,

but that runs the risk that you won't manage to get it read either the old books or the new books afterwards ....

(If you do decide to do that, probably best to deauthorize it from Adobe first, as that reduces the risk of it counting as two devices against your maximum of six).

The system tends to leave things around on your hard drive anyway;

you'll probably find all the (fairly small) .acsm files in your download directory as well as any left over .epub files in your Adobe directory.

Just delete the files from both when you are sure you are finished with them.

You may also find them still littering up any ereader you have.

v1.7.2 slightly less error prone than v2.0/2.0.1, but it will probably have many of the same problems.

Well - I tried a "soft" reset and now all my books are gone.  And when I try to re-download them from ADE it says the books already exist on my Kobo but I can't see them.  I've contacted Kobo as I'm now getting very frustrated with this!  I've purchased a lot of books from Kobo and want them back!

My pages in Digital Edition will not change when I'm reading my books. I have to go back to library and into the book again before the page have been turned. I can se it change pages in the bottom, but the picture of the page will remain on the same as before. The books worked on my old computer. Even the Getting startet with Adobe Digital Edition will not turn the pages. What do I do? I have tried to reinstall the program again with no result.

They won't respond directly to that request ....

Adobe Live Chat: http://www.adobe.com/support/chat/ivrchat.html,

or as a slight short cut try http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?product=digital-editions&topic=usi ng-my-product-or-service

Click on 'I still need help' and then you should see 'Chat with an Agent' at the bottom of the page.

'Ask our experts' will indeed just lead you back to this forum.

Sometimes you will get ‘Sorry! All agents are busy— please check back soon.’

Don’t refresh the page, just hang on and it should eventually go to ‘Chat Now, and agent is available’.

They can reset your authorizations, and then you must reauthorize any devices you still need.

(Unfortunately, Adobe haven’t got round to an admin website for viewing and editing authorizations.)

Some of the representatives haven't been properly trained and don't know what to do (and claim there is nothing they can do);

in that case the only way seems to be to give up that chat and try another session hoping for a properly trained representative.

If your problem is with another device using Overdrive, Bluefire, Aldiko or similar third party app, it is recommended not to mention that app when on the chat, just mention that you have run out of authorizations  (E_ACT_TOO_MANY_ACTIVATIONS) .  Thanks to AJP_Bear for that tip.

Hmmmm.  I suggest:

  1. Deauthorize the Kobo from ADE
  2. Stop ADE
  3. Look at the Kobo as a mounted drive with your file manager (Windows Explorer, Mac FInder, ...)
  4. Copy any books you don't already have elsewhere onto the PC;
  5. and preferably copy ALL your books somewhere safe in the cloud; eg Dropbox or Google Drive.
  6. Completely empty the Digital Editions folder on the Kobo.
  7. Make sure the file manager is viewing hidden files and folders,
backup and delete any folder on the Kobo with a name like '.adobedigitaleditions'
  8. Start ADE
  9. Authorize the Kobo
  10. See if you can now copy books from ADE to the Kobo
  11. and even with luck read the books
  12. (optional) kill everyone involved in designing/building the Adobe DRM infrastructure and software
(I don't think you can kill the testers ~ all the evidence points to the fact that there have never been any testers.)

Several people seem to have this as a bug in ADE2.0/2.0.1.

It does seem to work for most people; not sure where the difference lies.

As long as you don't need access to books authorized by vendor ID I suggest you try the much more reliable older version (see below).

If the books are not DRM at all, then use the free Calibre software, which is much better than any version of ADE.

Can I have two or more different Adobe IDs on a single computer?

We are giving an ebook course for 30 people, we want to buy the 30 ebooks from a provider, and then installed them in all the ereaders. We would like them to have the course already installed in the device, so they do not waste time downloading and so on. We have an ID but we can just link 6 devices, not all 30, so we have tried to create more IDs so we could do it 6 by 6... but apparently the only choice we have is to erase the program every time, install it and login with another ID... tedious. We would like to repeat this kind of courses for more people, but if we do have to do all this stuff every time... I don't know.

Anyone can come up with an easyer solution, please?

Thank you!

Hi, Thank you for your help. Where is the download directory and the Adobe directory? I've never heard of those before. I'm using Windows 7, 64 bit.

When I download a library book it says license error, e_stream_error. What can I do? It worked fine just a few days ago. TIA.

The download directory is probably at C:\Users\<userid>\Downloads

The Adobe directory is probably at C:\Users\<userid>\Documents\My Digital Editions

They may be different if you have a non-standard install, or have explicitly set the downloads directory,

but fairly unlikely if you haven't heard of them before...

A pain; there don't seem to be any special arrangements for bulk buys like this.

I think you will find only 5 devices, as the computer itself counts as one.

However, you will only need to buy 6 copies, not 30, unless you are feeling particularly generous to the seller.

You don't have to uninstall each time to change ID,

instead use ctrl-shift-D (cmd-shift-D if on a Mac) to ADE to unregister, then register with a different ID.

Still irritating, just not quite as irritating.

If fact, even if you uninstall and reinstall there will be some fragments of the old registration left and you will still need that deregister.
