I'm afraid you probably.

When you run out of authorizations completely Adobe will reset them all for you.

Thay may be able to do that anyway, try ...

Adobe Live Chat: http://www.adobe.com/support/chat/ivrchat.html,

or as a slight short cut try http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?product=digital-editions&topic=usi ng-my-product-or-service

Click on 'I still need help' and then you should see 'Chat with an Agent' at the bottom of the page.

'Ask our experts' will indeed just lead you back to this forum.

Sometimes you will get ‘Sorry! All agents are busy— please check back soon.’

Don’t refresh the page, just hang on and it should eventually go to ‘Chat Now, and agent is available’.

They can reset your authorizations, and then you must reauthorize any devices you still need.

(Unfortunately, Adobe haven’t got round to an admin website for viewing and editing authorizations.)

Some of the representatives haven't been properly trained and don't know what to do (and claim there is nothing they can do);

in that case the only way seems to be to give up that chat and try another session hoping for a properly trained representative.

If your problem is with another device using Overdrive, Bluefire, Aldiko or similar third party app, it is recommended not to mention that app when on the chat, just mention that you have run out of authorizations  (E_ACT_TOO_MANY_ACTIVATIONS) .  Thanks to AJP_Bear for that tip.

Can you give more details please?  For example ...

  • Is this a Kobo tablet or eReader?
  • Are you trying to download directly to the Kobo (tablet), or having problems copying from ADE (Digital Editions) on the computer to the Kobo?
  • Is the book working fine on ADE itself?
  • Are old books already on the Kobo still able to be read?

Are these DRM books or DRM-free ones?

If DRM-free, try using the free Calibre software; much better than ADE except for lack of DRM support.

If they are DRM books, does that bookeen support Adobe DRM ebooks?

If they are DRM and the bookeen is meant to support DRM, try the older ADE version, much more reliable (see below).

~~~
There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0 (and 2.0.1).  Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
(You can have them both installed at once if you like.)
Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.
http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/cant-install-digital-editio ns.html
The forum software is sometimes corrupting the link above.  There shouldn't be a blank in 'editio ns.html'.  The following redirects to the same page: http://tinyurl.com/diged172
Some people have found ADE trying to upgrade automatically.
It appears (not 100% sure) that if you install ADE2.0 as a new install (not as an upgrade) that your 1.7.2 will continue to run.
Probably best to say no if 2.0.x installation asks if you want to migrate your library.
Hi sjpt - it's a Kobo ereader.  I don't know where the problem originates but I download the library book at ADE and then drag and drop the book from ADE to my Kobo (as I have always done).  The book appears on my Kobo but when I click on it to read I keep getting the same message "The content you are trying to view is locked.  Please use your Adobe ID to authorize your ereader with the Kobo desktop application or Adobe digtial editions."  I have unauthorized (using control, shift, D) and re-authorized ADE but am still getting the same message.  The book works on ADE and I can still read all my other books on my Kobo.
Thanks for any help you can give!  It's driving me insane!
Authorizing Additional Devices
I am a school librarian and have purchased 10 NOOK Simple Touch devices for students to borrow.  I hae a laptop that I am using as a "Download Station" to download the e-book from Overdrive and then transfer it to the NOOK.  I set up the ADE account using an Adobe ID/email address, but can only authorize 6 NOOKS.  Is there a way to add another AdobeID on the laptop so all the NOOKS can be authorized to this one computer?
I changed my computer from IMac to a Macbook Pro. I load the the setup via time machine, so That the old setup was on the new one. Now I get problems with Adobe Digital Edition. I coudn't transfer some bought books. The  license info from the program said , this computer is licensed. I reinstalled the program and can open the books. Activation error: E_ACT_NOT_READY. What I have to do??
Almost certainly the transfer of the program without reactivation has confused ADE.
Sometimes ADE gets its registration/activation confused and in a semi-authorized state.
Uninstalling and reinstalling does not help.
Unfortunately, it often then gives misleading error messages about what is wrong.
A common incorrect message informs you that the ID is already in use on another computer and cannot be reused.
This can often be resolved by completely removing any authorization using ctrl-shift-D to the Library screen on ADE (cmd-shift-D if on Mac).
Restart ADE, and then reauthorize with your (old) Adobe ID.
In extreme cases on the mac, the following extra step has helped some people.  Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash. If you are using 10.7, see Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1265248?tstart=0
You are lucky to have got away with 6 Nooks, usually 6 devices in total (including the computer).
It may be that if you use different OS level users on the laptop you will be able to register them with different Adobe IDs.
Also, you can keep on deregistering one ID (ctrl-shift-D, cmd-shift-D on Mac) and reregistering to the other
... not very convenient, and I'm not sure the Adobe registration server might not lose count and think you've got more registrations than you do.
If you do arrange two different Adobe IDs, you will find you cannot share books between them.
Adobe may have special arrangements for schools and libraries, or possibly ask Overdrive themselves.
I suspect Overdrive might be more helpful as this is their core business,
where Abobe seem to treat the whole ADEPT DRM thing (software and infrastructure) with a total lack of professionalism.
Re: Library book download
Is it just one book that it is failing on, or does it fail with all books freshly downloaded from the library?
If just one book, maybe the Kobo has an issue with that book.
I found when I had a Bookeen Opus that there was a very small number of books it just would't read,
though the detailed symptoms were different.
If all new books, is there any possibility that you have somehow got the Kobo and ADE registered with different Adobe IDs?
Try copying a DRM book that works on the Kobo from the Kobo to the computer, and seeing if you can read it on ADE.
If so, you might need to deauthorize the Kobo (ctrl-shift-E while plugged in) and reauthorize it with the ID you currently use on ADE.
But be aware that this may mean you can no longer read obn the Kobo those older books that currently work there.
Error when returning library books
Hi, I managed to return a few ebooks to my library using Adobe Digital Editions without problems but many of the books I try and return give the following message:
"Error returning item. License Server Communication problem. E_BAD_LOAN_ID"
Luckily, the books are returned to the library despite this error but I'm left with the corrupted files showing up in Digital Editions. When I try and delete them I get a message saying it will delete the book from the software but not from my hard drive.
What should I do?
Re: Library book download
It's failing on all.  I just bought a book from Kobo and am now getting the same message when I try to open that on my Kobo.  I can read everything on ADE (including everything purchased from Kobo as well as borrowed from the library), I can read all my old books on the Kobo - it just won't let me into anything new.  I de-authorized and reauthorized my Kobo and I'm still getting the same problem.
why Adobe digital Edition does not accept my Adobe ID for authorisation my Computer?
